In a world where with a simple search on Google for ‘pensions’ will provide you with over 15 million results, and ‘Investments’ over 65 million, it is clear that simply factual information is of little value anymore. Wisdom, hard won through experience and deep technical ability, is key. And that’s what we do.
We understand that for many Clients, they are speaking to us at a point of great stress, perhaps involving the loss of a loved one, the uncertainty of retirement or the sale of a business.
Our role is to help you through, to chart a journey that is right for you. Our role is to clarify, simplify, explain and manage the journey through the complexities of ‘The Money World’, to help you to a point where you are back in control and confident.
As a result of this process we will be able to provide you with a clear and comprehensive Financial Plan which will map out the journey and signpost the milestones.

In particular, I am well known for my work with Private Individuals & Families, Trustees and Charities. Those with what looks like substantial assets – usually over £500 000 – often have a complexity in their affairs that I find I can help with
I pride myself on clarity of advice coupled with a transparent, evidence based approach to Investment Management. My aim is to cut through any complexity and not only help our Clients to feel secure about their future, but feel comfortable in their relationship with us.
I am proud that VouchedFor have rated me as one of their Top Advisers – based purely on the independent feedback of our clients. It means we are doing what we say we do.
A ‘temp’ role in Financial Services firm became a permanent position and shortly after resulted in becoming Investment Director for the Financial Planning division of a ‘Top Four’ Accountancy firm.
In 2009, I decided I wanted to return to what I love – working with Clients and so Perceptive Planning was born.
After growing up in Wales and South Africa, and working as an Industrial Chemist in the Steel Industry, I joined Financial Services in 1982. I have held a few roles since then, as an Adviser, Manager, Trainer, Financial Planner and as a Business and Technical Consultant to other Advisers.
At Perceptive Planning I have a mainly operational role, supporting the Client team, headed by Shannon. I do look after a few personal Clients, as well as being the firms Pension Specialist, often looking at occupational pension scheme transfers and valuations. I have been a qualified specialist in this field since 1996.
I enjoy helping other Financial Advisers cope with regulatory change, and have been lucky enough to have spoken at conferences and worked with Advisers, Planners and Regulators in the UK, USA, Ireland, Australia, France, Portugal, Hungary, Bulgaria, Monaco, Canada and South Africa
My financial services career initially started within accountancy where, in my late teens, I spent a while working in the management accounts department for Random House Publishing company.
Following some frustration whilst arranging a mortgage with an industry professional I thought ‘I can do that!’ and moved into mortgage advising with a large national firm. I then branched out on my own as an independent mortgage consultant.
It was in December 2010 when Shannon gave me the opportunity to come on board with her newly established Financial Planning company and since then I have not looked back.
I finished my A Levels and managed to get a position in a Financial Services firm providing endowment and life insurance illustrations and arranging policies for solicitors and their Clients across England and Wales, a service offered by the Law Society at that time. I then became a financial adviser for a building society before specialising in mortgages and joining a company providing mortgage advice to the other financial advisers and their Clients.
The position at Perceptive Planning came up just as my youngest was starting to school so I took this as a ‘sign’ that working with Shannon and Phil was my destiny and persuaded them to take me on.
My job title is Client Services and I provide Paraplanner support to Shannon. The role is quite varied and Shannon has been great in pushing my knowledge and stretching the work I undertake on her behalf. We are busy – boredom is something I have not encountered here and the variety, along with the people I am working with, means coming to work is not a chore.
Out of work I spend much of my time as a taxi service and cheerleader for my children. I also help at my daughters dancing school and enjoy travelling given the opportunity…as long as the facilities are right!
