Percy A Hudson Now
Today, Percy A Hudson is still run by the Hudson family. Following Malcolm and Douglas’ well-earned retirements, Paul, Mark and Jonathan are taking the business forward. They are the fourth generation of Hudson family members working as timber merchants in North East England.
Most of the storage areas and stock were lost in the fire. Fortunately, the sawmill and office were saved. During that challenging time, Percy A Hudson continued to trade while constructing a new warehouse, which was completed in early 2003.
Sadly, the original sawmill and buildings were destroyed by fire in June 1956. Fortunately, the business was up-and-running again after the new sawmill was opened less than a year later in March 1957.
100 years of Percy A Hudson Limited
Percy A Hudson Limited is a family-run timber merchant that opened for business when Percy himself bought the company’s original North Shields sawmill in 1911. Historically, a working sawmill has operated on the site since 1853.
Percy’s son, Reginald Hudson, would later take over from his father. Incredibly, Reginald would work until 2001, when he was in his eighties. Son Malcolm then joined the business in 1960 before being followed by brother Douglas in 1981.
It all starts with identifying sources of A-grade timber that other suppliers cannot continually match, given our legacy and long-standing supply network. Percy A Hudson constantly brings in superb timber in an array of types before being cut in our North Shields sawmill.
