Chandlers Opticians was the brainchild of Martin Chandler and opened in 1994 in Godalming, Surrey. After a successful start, he expanded by opening a practice in Haslemere whereupon his wife Rhiannon became a full time part of the business. In 1997, they acquired the Bordon practice and the rest, as they say, is history.
Highly respected by both clients and the optical industry as a whole, over the years all three practices have gone from strength to strength. Martin and Rhiannon have built up a loyal team and were delighted when they moved to Wales in 2012 to take up a more relaxed way of life, although both still very much involved with the business.
Sadly, after just a few months in Wales, Martin past away and is greatly missed by us all. Instead of selling the business, Rhiannon took the bull by the horns and has continued to run it from Wales. She is still doing so, and along with Stephen Brand and Martine Dalton is taking Chandlers to new heights of service and professionalism.
At Chandlers we understand that everyone is different. We offer a complete professional service, attending to all your optical needs. From eye health checks and precautionary scans, to contact lenses and high fashion frames. We can advise on laser correction and your NHS entitlements. As we are independent we can offer spectacle lenses which we KNOW are suitable for you, as we are not tied into offering just one brand as are most optical superstores.
Making the most of your eyes
As an independent we are free to advise on your needs rather than what we supply
Most contact lenses supplied today are disposable - they are worn for either one day and then simply discarded, or for up to a month with daily care being taken of the lenses to restrict the build up of deposits. By replacing the lenses this frequently the surface quality of the contact lenses remains high and provides for excellent comfort and vision, whilst also promoting long term healthy eyes free from infection or corneal insult.
If you would like to discover if contact lenses may be right for you, you can book a trial at Chandlers Opticians.
All we require are the results of an up to date eye examination and will also take some measurements of your eyes specific to the fitting of contact lenses. We will discuss with you the lens types available for your eyes and also try to help you decide which lenses will suit your needs and budget.
Once we have reached a preliminary decision the next step is to teach you how to handle and care for your contact lenses. This may be daunting for some new wearers but our trained staff are very patient and want to share in your success and help you become an enthusiastic contact lens wearer.
We want you to trust Chandlers Opticians to provide first class clinical care to meet your aspiration to do away with spectacles and become a contact lens wearer.
It will usually take around 2 weeks to adapt to your contact lenses fully. Determination and a real desire to be successful will help enormously in overcoming any initial problems, for example:
Allow half an hour to pass after you have woken, before you insert your lenses. This will ensure that any debris has been flushed out of the eye. It is then a good idea to sit at a table with a mirror, where it is also well lit. Long sighted wearers may find a magnifying mirror helpful.
before handling your contact lenses, making sure that when you dry them, you do not have any fluff on your fingers. Also make sure that you only apply make-up after you have inserted the lenses. When you are ready to insert the lenses, take your time and remember the instructions that you received in the practice.
