While there are many options for people needing personal care, few help to alleviate loneliness and give the on-going companionship that sharing a home can give. Former public relations account director Caroline Cooke established and ran the successful London-based nanny agency After School Nannies from 2002 to 2006. “My years of recruiting nannies as well as 12 years of running a homeshare scheme had given me a lot of experience in matching different characters and their varied needs,” says Caroline, who is married to a teacher, and has two teenage children. “I love helping people. For thousands of older people, their families don’t live nearby – or are working and have young families of their own. Share & Care can help provide practical support and ease the feeling of loneliness – and even anxiety – that older people can have living on their own, while also giving reassurance to their families.”
Amanda Clarke joined Share & Care in 2012, having run her own business selling property in Egypt for 7 years. Prior to that Amanda headed the design and development team of Puma UK. She has two grown up sons. “ My previous years of business experience has included managing, employing and vetting potential employees, I therefore understand the importance in finding the right people to become home sharers. I am also of an age whereby I understand first-hand the difficulties faced when trying to make suggestions and decide on the most appropriate care for an elderly parent. I genuinely think homeshare is a marvellous concept. It is a win-win way of giving help to elderly people and allowing them to remain independent in their own homes while also giving younger people who are struggling to get on the property ladder a chance to live in a low-cost way. During her career, Lizzy has worked throughout Europe as well as in the USA, recruiting and selecting potential candidates. She has also spent time in New Zealand and Japan. “I love working in an environment where you can make a real difference to people’s lives. Talking to Homeowners, their families and their Sharers has shown me the value of Homesharing: each one is able to maintain their independence and dignity within the framework of a mutually supportive relationship” Lizzy has completed various courses on how to help people living with memory loss such as Dementia, thus has a wealth of knowledge and experience in this field and volunteers with
