ABOUT EFFRA CLINIC LTD

We are 3 colleagues that met at the Maudsley Hospital (international centre of excellence in training, research and practice of psychiatry) and affiliated Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN, King's College London). We discovered that we had a shared passion for the study and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, autism, OCD and learning difficulties).

We are all established and experienced Consultant Psychiatrists with expertise in neurodevelopmental disorders and their associated mental health problems. We continue to be actively involved in research as well as the training of health professionals in the UK and internationally. Elena is an experienced Consultant subspecialising in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and enjoy working with families and schools. Susannah and Stefanos are general adult psychiatrists and together lead the adult ADHD services at the Maudsley Hospital. We share with each other and our colleagues the latest thinking in our research areas and clinical experience providing a breadth of opinion, fertility of ideas and innovations in mental health care.

Why are we are called Effra?

We are a life-span service

We know that mental health, and in particular neurodevelopmental disorders have a deep and long lasting impact on the lives of people and the families that they affect. They are often life-long problems with symptoms and problems manifesting in different ways throughout the life-span. We are the first life-span service to be established that can oversee care from diagnosis in infancy to problems at work and within relationships in adult life.

We are a multi-disciplinary group practice

We are committed to continued NHS practice and combine ongoing NHS commitments with our private practice. We believe in sharing knowledge and expertise and between us are involved in a range of activities to improve health outcomes locally and internationally through mentoring, teaching and international humanitarian work.
