UXUI Limited is the trading name of David Yates, an independent UX Design contractor.
UXUI has been in existence since 2014, although I have been designing interfaces since the mid 1990s – before the term ‘UX’ had been coined. Over that time I have helped to redesign, rebuild, rework, rethink, improve, declutter and simplify dozens of interfaces. I have redesigned: software; apps; responsive websites; eCommerce sites, conversational interfaces for Alexa and Google Home as well as a TV remote control and a pilot-assist vehicle interface.
I am a highly experienced and award winning UX/UI Designer and consultant. I work as an independent contractor bringing years of experience from organisations, big and small, globally. I hit the ground running, always focused on creating impressive, user-centred solutions that increase engagement and satisfaction, maximising business benefits. I utilise an evidence-based approach to my work in research design and in my responsibilities towards stakeholders.
I got into UX via a slightly circuitous route. I had designed and marketed mountaineering products, worked in creative direction and I spent some time as the Global Intranet Project Manager at BP as well. The common thread was my interest in the relationship between people, products and design …and how technology can help all that along.
By 2002 I was Head of Design at Marborough Stirling plc – a multinational software company. We had developed the technology that facilitated online mortgages – this required users to administer products and processes themselves, through browsers – pretty shocking browsers at the time. This was my introduction to what is now called UX. My team and I had to work out much of it for ourselves, but others were tackling similar issues and between us we helped to shape the way interfaces are designed and bring the user right to the forefront of the design and development of products, websites and software.
