Most of the discussions about the risks of HRT in recent years were confusing for both women and their GPs. Recent NICE guideline provides recommendations on diagnosis and treatment of menopausal women and clearly makes the distinction between oestrogen alone replacement therapy and combined oestrogen and progesterone therapy. It also endorses a need for HRT in women with premature ovarian dysfunction (menopause before the age of 40 years).
