MEET BARRETT SOLICITORS

Joe Barrett is the founder of Barrett Solicitors. He studied law at London University and has over 20 years of experience as a solicitor in leading City shipping and international trade firms. On the shipping front Joe specialises in all disputes arising under charterparties, bills of lading, COAs and the sale and purchase of vessels. He also has a great deal of experience in off shore work, in particular in relation to the Supplytime charterparty. On the commodities front Joe has dealt with many Trade Association arbitrations, including GAFTA and FOSFA as well as other commodity association forums. Joe has also acted for clients in arbitration in the ICC and Commercial Court regarding oil and coal disputes.

Patrick graduated from university in New Hampshire and London. He brings with him approaching 20 years of personal injury experience. Patrick acts on behalf of insurers defending actions arising out of accidents and illnesses involving passengers or crew members. In joining forces with the specialist shipping lawyers at Barrett Solicitors he is well placed to navigate the complexities of jurisdiction and applicable law. Patrick has an extensive personal injury background (Shipping, RTA, employers liability, public liability, clinical negligence) having handled a range of claims including complex personal injury and clinical negligence cases involving serious, life changing injuries. Patrick has the advantage of having acted for both Claimants and Defendants in personal injury claims which gives him a unique perspective. He is particularly commercial in his approach to resolving claims but is highly experienced in defending complex injury cases through the admiralty and county courts.

A central area of the firm's expertise is resolving issues relating to contracts for the carriage of goods. The firm has advised on all the major charterparty forms including demise, time and voyage charterparties, COA's, pool and slot agreements and JVAs.
