ABOUT OPENSTORYTELLERS, LIMITED
Our mission
Openstorytellers provide vital opportunities to people with learning disabilities they cannot access anywhere else. People with learning disabilities can live very isolated lives, and it can be difficult to find work and or get involved in community activities.
Our innovative courses, workshops, activities and performances help hundreds of people every year. For them, stories provide a way of improving their:
Hearing stories from others and sharing personal experiences helps reduce feelings of isolation.
Learning how to listen and empathise with others helps develop relationships and friendships.
Shared storytelling helps develop confidence, empowerment and problem-solving skills.
Openstorytellers was set up in 2004 by speech and language therapist Dr Nicola Grove, who discovered that sharing stories can help build relationships and challenge social exclusion.
We have developed a portfolio of innovative day services, courses, workshops, activities and events that help hundreds of people every year. We believe stories play a major role in building relationships and a personal sense of identity, sharing experiences and helping everyone to fully participate in society.
