ABOUT UCG EDUCATION LTD

Delius is a nursery and primary school (2-11 years) offering high quality generic specialist provision for children with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). These include complex medical, physical, emotional and learning difficulties and disabilities, and are sometimes described as profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), or severe learning difficulties, or Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). We deliver, track and assess progress in 4 key areas; Cognition and Learning; Communication and Interaction; Social, Emotional and Mental Health and Sensory and or Physical. However we nurture the whole child and work hard to engage families in all that we do. It is our mission to provide world class quality teaching and learning for all our pupils. Our priority is to develop safe, happy learning. We opened to pupils on April 26th 2010 after several years of reorganisation within the special school sector in Bradford. Pupils came from 5 different special schools and some were new to school. Staff came from 7 different special schools. We have had a successful journey and are proud of our ‘continuing Good’ Ofsted Inspection (March 2017). As proud as we are to have achieved this status, we remain determined to improve standards at Delius. We also work effectively with partners to support world class standards for all children and young people with SEND. We are executive partners on Shanidar, the new Inclusive SEND Teaching School Alliance, and we hope to convert to an Academy and join the inclusive SEND Southfield Grange Trust on 1st December 2017. We hope you enjoy learning about our school through our website and we look forward to seeing you here again soon.

September 2017: 11.45am-1.15pm (with lunch provided)

At the same time, Southfield and Delius have been working together to support Bradford Local Authority in its Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Review and with the Department for Education (DfE) and the Regional Schools Commissioner (RSC) to secure and agree the way forward in relation to Delius’ conversion to academy status. In December 2016 and January 2017 Delius’ Governors reviewed the options for Academisation and resolved again to apply to the Southfield Grange Trust. Our new application was made in early April 2017.

We are pleased to tell you that the DfE and the RSC have approved our joint aim of starting a SEND MAT in Bradford and agreed to restart our Academisation. The outcome of the application is expected towards the end of the Autumn term 2017, delayed by the announcement of the General Election. Grange Technology College will leave SGT to join a new Multi-Academy Trust, allowing Southfield and Delius to develop a SEND Multi Academy Trust, to further improve the provision for SEND in Bradford.

Hello, my name is Mumtaz Butt and I am the home-school liaison officer at Delius. I am also a HLTA and spend 2 and a half days in class. In the past we at Delius have run lots of different courses such as Beauty, Hair, Manicure and Pedicure courses and ICT. These were very successful, we had up to 20 plus parents attending. Feedback from the parents this year was that they would like to do some more practical/academic courses. I offer help and advice on filling out forms such as disability and housing etc.. If you have any problems and need a translator in Urdu or Punjabi then do not hesitate to contact me. You are always welcome to pop in just for a chat.

Our Literacy and Numeracy courses last the entire year, however this can vary depending on your individual progress. We are happy to work at your pace so that you feel 100% comfortable in taking the exams. The Literacy is Level 1 and Level 2. At the moment we have 15 people attending who are all at different levels. This course is run on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 in the morning. Free refreshments are available.

We are extremely thankful to Laisterdyke Library who allow us to use their ICT facilities on a Tuesday afternoon to host our ICT training course. This course is run in term time every Tuesday afternoon from 1.30pm to 3pm.

We have a tutor from Bradford College called Hamida. We are learning about facials, manicures, pedicures and Asian bridal make up. It is held at Delius Special School every Wednesday at 9.30- 11.30am. If you are on benefits it should be absolutely free, so come, join us and have loads of fun!

We have a lady who comes into school to teach parents how to sew. Some parents come to sew, others come for the company and a coffee. This course is run on a Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:30. This course is free and we have our own sewing machines and sewing supplies in school.

Making focused visits to school

The Governing Body is currently made up of thirteen governors including two representing teachers and the non-teaching staff and three parent governors. We come from a variety of backgrounds and bring different skills and expertise, but we are all committed to ensuring that Delius provides a safe, happy learning environment and that our pupils receive the best education possible.

Music is widely regarded as a tool to help pupils with special needs to develop their communication skills. These pupils can be introduced to new emotions and words through the use of music.

Pupils, families, staff, governors and the wider community work together in a spirit of co-operation to provide a safe, happy and cohesive environment.

Provide school medical staff with information about their child’s medication and health care and to label medical items with name, date and dosage.

Work with school to help achieve their child’s individual targets

Help their child to make the most of what the school has to offer.
