His cross-functional expertise provides one of the essential pillars of success for the clients he serves. A �business architect�, the foundations of Minaz�s professional career began after graduating from university, and was further enhanced with the extensive training he received in London from a large firm of accountants. He moved down to Wiltshire in 1988 retaining a number of London based clients. Areas of expertise include tax planning, compliance work, corporate restructuring, audit and finance work, including flotations on the PLUS market. A testimony to his achievements is the �9m he helped to raise for a waste-recycling company.
A bed rock of the team since 1994, Steve�s lateral thinking and leadership role have evolved through his equally lateral education and training. He boasts dual membership of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Additionally, a Chartered Tax Adviser since 1981, Steve has vast experience in implementing effective tax planning strategies, including EIS schemes, for small to sizeable medium-sized (turnover �50m plus) businesses. As a result of the many complex interactions with clients, and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) Steve has maximised his problem solving ability, with the appropriate tools to tackle the wide ranging portfolio of work requiring his special attention. He has dealt with many investigations by HMRC at both local and Special Civil Investigations (SCI) level. Also pursuing appeals before tax tribunals (both VAT and the direct taxes) Steve has provided legal support and acted as expert witness on a range of subjects including taxation issues, share and business valuations and losses of business income. Recent cases have included matrimonial, insurance, professional negligence, personal injury, business disputes and demergers.
John is a senior consultant to the practice, and is one of the longest serving members of the team. His seniority is reflected in the multiplicity of services he has provided to different generations of the same family. John is an exemplary leader, and one which the team at Berkeley Lifford Hall are proud to aspire to. His long and challenging career, has endowed him with adepth and scope of knowledge and experience which cannot be easily matched. This stems from the training he received with an international firm of accountants, emerging as a tax and audit specialist. Previously a senior partner of Berkeley Rankine, John excelled in initiating strategies to meet the needs of a varied spectrum of client base. In particular he has developed a keen interest in serving the specific business needs of a more rural community.
Paul is a specialist consultant to the firm. He was formerly the National Grants Consultant with an International firm of Chartered Accountants., the CBI, and SQW, the Cambridge-based firm of economic development consultants. He specialises in National Lottery Grants, R&D tax relief and European Research and Development Programmes. Over the past 10 years he has been involved in more than 60 successful grant applications with a total value of more than �5.5million. The process involves advising clients on the specific schemes to apply for, preparing a detailed project report and business plan, negotiating the case for assistance with grants, appealing against negative or unsatisfactory decisions, and finalising arrangements for the draw down of funding. Usually working on a �no grant, no fee� basis, Paul can provide your firm with a free grants appraisal � a review worth undertaking whenever you are considering the hiring of new staff or an investment project of any kind.
Since 1998, Anna has been a diligent and integral member of the team. After graduating with a degree in Accounting and Business Economics from Southampton University she trained as an Accountant and has worked for numerous accountancy practices in the South West. This has led to the acquisition of varied experience which inevitably guides the work that Anna is involved in. She provides a professional and personalised service to a wide range of owner-managed businesses, from the smallest to some of the largest in the field, with an expertise in accounts preparation and auditing. Her in-depth knowledge of accountancy software, makes her an important and fundamental point of reference to clients who need help with their accountancy systems, whilst also managing the in-house software with the system administrators. A competitive golf player, Anna�s meritocratic spirit is reflected in the high quality of work ethic she adopts.
