The most important environmentally friendly aspect of GRP is the fact that a correctly installed GRP roof will last the lifetime of the building, unlike other more conventional bitumen based flat roof materials. In addition no heat is used during the installation of GRP, therefore no products are used which could create greenhouse gases e.g. bitumen boilers and blowtorches. All the resins used in the GRP systems are based on low styrene emission formulations. At the end of its lifespan GRP can be ground down and used as a filler. GRP is totally inert when fully cured and therefore poses no threat either long or short term if disposed of in landfill.
