Microsynthesis was formed in January 2002 and incorporated a year later by current director Bob Leardi to serve as a vehicle for conducting consultancy services to the mining and construction industries in respect of providing technology solutions for improving safety and efficiency. Since then, Microsynthesis has conducted a great many complex and demanding projects, providing analyses and solutions to customers in quarrying, manufacturing, engineering, transport and professional music plus many others.
We design and develop bespoke electronic technologies for our customers as well as offering a high-calibre consultancy service. Our particular expertise is in systems to measure and monitor position, location and proximity which are used in such applications as collision avoidance, industrial surveying and mining safety. But we also work on projects of any size and complexity and for any business sector. We use formal development techniques to ensure that our solutions are highly robust and reliable, making them suitable for safety-critical, mission critical and high-security applications.

Turning problems into products
Bob is able to draw on over two decades of experience working in the electronics industry as a professional Electronic Engineer. His career has taken him from working on safety-critical systems in the rail transport industry, through engineering planning and design before settling on electronic product development. Prior to forming Microsynthesis Bob was a senior development engineer with a company which produced control and monitoring equipment for the food and textiles industries.
During his BEng degree in Electronic Engineering he specialised in control system engineering. Since then Bob has taken a number of qualifications including a course with the Chartered Quality Institute. In 2014 he graduated from the University of Leicester with a MSc in Reliable Embedded Systems which he studied for alongside running Microsynthesis.
Jonny has a technology degree from De Montfort University which he gained in 2012. He just loves technology (and is very good with it)! He has several years’ experience in bringing technology to life in a number of settings. He is particularly good with media technology. Jonny’s role within Microsynthesis is to support all the development activities, from setting up test equipment and PC tools to technical research and coding. He has created the new Microsynthesis website, blog, and video channel.
