Our story begins in the late 1990s, where our founders Andrew Elcock and David Noble were working for a leading UK Oracle Distributor, Sphinx CST. Throughout the course of their work they identified a significant gap in the market for a truly independent supplier of specialist database services. With their skillsets, it struck them that they would be the best-placed team to fill that gap. In early 2002, the founding of Xynomix saw the realisation of this ambition, and we have gone from strength to strength.
At first, Xynomix was based in a small office in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, but demand for our services meant we expanded quickly. In 2007, we moved a few miles down the road to our current premises at Electron House in Sandiacre, where space is now running out. With the purchase of the building next door in 2013, Scientific House, we’re paving the way for further expansion to meet the growing demand for our data management services.

Business as usual had to be maintained in the face of an IT disaster
This solution consisted of a 2-node active-passive Microsoft SQL Server cluster located in two data centre locations. It was underpinned by hardware infrastructure that could be scaled-up as demand increased. We used Microsoft SQL Server replication (locally and cross site) to ensure that two identical sets of business data were maintained consistently.
A large local authority had implemented a mission-critical Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) used for revenue and benefits systems
Xynomix worked closely with the client’s on-site DBA team and management to re-architect the entire Oracle RAC cluster, including database patching for 9 environments. Our aim was to facilitate effective query performance, eliminate unnecessary downtime and provide a robust, scalable base onto which they could build their systems.
After the successful project conclusion, the council elected not to employ a new senior DBA and engaged Xynomix to provide 24×7×365 support on a proactive and reactive basis
