Mark Hinchliffe and his family have been heavily involved in the transport industry for over 100 years. His Great Grandfather, Joseph Hinchliffe, who originated from Sheffield, had teams of horses and men helping with the construction of today’s canals and reservoirs in and around Lancashire and Yorkshire. On the eve of the First World War, he was sent to France with his horses. He saw the first successful motor lorries at work behind the front line.
After the war, in 1946, John and Bert started a new company, J & H Hinchliffe which operated from the site at Gollinrod, Bury. In 1986 Mark joined the company as an apprentice mechanic, after gaining his City & Guilds Qualification, he became the company’s Fleet Engineer, managing the workshop.
In October 2001 Mark decided that he was going to have a go, so with the help and guidance of his Dad John, Hinchliffe Transport Services Ltd was formed. The trailer hire side of the business evolved in 2002, successfully growing year on year.
Sadly John passed away on 15th October 2014, however the company still grows from strength to strength, with the addition of brand new trailers to its hire fleet.
