About New Bold Design

and is a member of the AECB and the Passivhaus Trust. This enables New Bold Design to offer advice and design services on sustainable building techniques as well as on-site services to Contractors. We are not experts in renewable technologies but we know people who are, once the insulation and air-tightness credentials of the building fabric have been optimised.

Company History

New Bold Design Limited was incorporated in April 1999 to provide architectural services to Architects in the North East of England. It was originally set up to enable Philip to work as a Senior Architectural Technician as a contractor for Dewjo’c Architects in Stockton-on-Tees. In April 2000 trading was suspended when Philip took up a salaried position with Dewjo’c and subsequently as a Senior Associate. More recently, Dewjo’c Architects has merged with Devereux Architects and Philip left Devereux at the end of January 2011 to re-launch New Bold Design Limited on 1 February 2011.

Company Ethos

The company does not use aircraft and the Director does not eat meat. We take the concept of one planet living, energy conservation and a sustainable lifestyle very seriously and this feeds through into the design of all our building projects, their impact on the environment and their running costs.

New Bold Design’s latest special needs housing adaptation project has won Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Building in the 2014 LABC Building Excellence Awards. The award was presented to Philip Newbold by Sunderland City Council at The Stadium of Light on 1 May. The Contractor, WCL Construction, also shared the award and the project has now been shortlisted for the regional LABC Awards in July
