I am passionate about the landscape, the environment and rural way of life and I tell stories about these in my paintings. I am excited by the links between people and their environment, whether it's rural or urban and re-making connections with the planet through pictures and storytelling. I also tell stories of modern society through folk art, currently I am inspired by protests. I am a rural artist, working at Beechenhill Farm, my family's organic dairy farm, in the Peak District.
I paint British Folk Art. I was initially inspired by 'bonader' (decorative wall hangings in Swedish) Swedish style folk art with homemade egg tempera on linen or canvas. This style of painting died out in the 1800s and I am instrumental in its revival in Sweden, where I run classes every summer. For over twenty years I have been an illustrator of books and a mural painter. I make Birds-eye-view Maps. In the past for many years I was a mural painter also making stained glass and tapestry. I also produce award winning website illustrations and designs. I have run community art classes and have strong skills as a communicator, facilitator and teacher.

SOME EXHIBITIONS, COMMISSIONS AND WORKSHOPS
Recording daily lives and paying respect to how people live in their places, whether rural or urban is what fascinates me. I use egg tempera paints, in a Swedish Folk Art tradition of Bonad painting. Doing this with ancient and organic materials; egg yolk and earth pigments gives my work integrity but is also a process that I am obsessed with.

Painted after a visit to the Occupy Protest site outside St Pauls. I love that we are a country where people can protest like this and not be shot. Mounted print.
