Our Mission
MEBC promotes the business and economic benefits and opportunities arising from the implementation of sustainable development principles and the transformation to a sustainable Low Carbon society.
MEBC is a member of a number of key organisations working in the Low Carbon sector such as the West Midlands Environmental Technologies Cluster Group, Birmingham Science City’s Low Carbon Group, the Green Commission and NiTC MayDay Leaders Group. At national level, it is a member of PRASEG (Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group) the cross-party Parliamentary Group which informs and reviews national policy in these areas.
Our CEO, Pat Laughlin is one of the seven Green Commissioners appointed by Birmingham City Council and is also a Sector Champion for Low Carbon & Environmental Technologies & Services for the GBS LEP.
We work closely with other related sectoral organisations, including for example those based in the Midlands such as SHAP (Social Housing Action Partnership), and SWM (Sustainability West Midlands); related Trade Associations such as CMF (Cast Metal Federation) located in West Bromwich; and similar organisations based across the UK such as BiTC (Business in The Community), IPA (International Power Association) in Scotland, SSN (Scottish Sustainability Network – a Local Authority grouping), SBC (Scottish Business in the Community) and CIEH (Chartered Institute for Environmental Health) in Wales and Northern Ireland.
