In 1993, Abbas Jaffer took over the practice and renamed it Family Eyecare. Abbas graduated from City University in 1991 and trained at Moorfields and Central Middlesex Hospitals before he entered private practice. He is an experienced optometrist with special accreditation to manage glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. Today, Abbas is ably assisted by several long-serving staff as well as his two children, Shaahid and Tahira, also fully-qualified optometrists.

We have always invested in the latest technology for eye examinations. We are now able to assess long term macular health, take detailed retinal photos and scans, screen efficiently for glaucoma as well as gather more information about the health of your eyes than ever before.

We have recently invested in an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scanner. This state of the art device uses lightscan technology to image the back of the eye in incredible detail, similar to an ultrasound or X-ray, but without any harmful radiation. This equipment is similar to that used by eye hospitals such as Moorfields and the Western Eye Hospital, and is advisable for anyone with a complex ocular history or who has a family history of several common eye conditions. It has been proven to detect eye conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration many years before routine checks. We are proud to be the only practice in the area to provide this service.
