Photostage represents the work of Donald Cooper, a leading UK stage photography specialist. The collection is principally of theatre and opera productions, with additional small selections of classical music (orchestras, conductors, soloists, singers), dance (classical ballet and contemporary), people (directors, writers) and venues.
The theatre work includes plays and musicals in the West End, London fringe, the major national and regional theatres and the Edinburgh Festival. There is a particularly strong Shakespeare collection comprehensively covering Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) productions since 1970, and also at the National Theatre (NT), Shakespeare's Globe (SG) and elsewhere in the UK, including visiting international companies.
The opera productions are from The Royal Opera (RO), English National Opera (ENO), Welsh National Opera (WNO), Scottish Opera (SO), Opera North (ON) and English Touring Opera (ETO). Also from the annual festivals at Glyndebourne (GFO), Garsington, Grange Park, Aldeburgh and Edinburgh (EIF).
There are strict guidelines governing the use of performing arts photographs, to respect the interests of the performers and the other creative artists involved (directors, designers etc.). Photographs may not normally be used for advertising or marketing purposes, and any such usage would require the advance permission of everyone concerned. For similar reasons, Photostage will not make photographs available, either as digital files or prints for 'private' purposes. Lo-res watermarked images can, however, be downloaded without charge for private study, student projects and similar purposes.
