My love of the English language and literature has led me to a life time of study and research in this field. As an 18-year old, I found myself in England living in a host family and attending a private school learning English as a Foreign Language. At that time, I had no idea that I would end up establishing and running a similar organization in the UK helping other students improve their English Language skills.
My educational and professional background spans many years of teaching and research in language teaching and Applied Linguistics at all levels: secondary, undergraduate, postgraduate and PH.D. supervision. Very early in my teaching career, I was fortunate enough to become involved in a pioneering research project which laid the foundations of what is known today as English for “Special Purposes” – for example, Business, Science and Technology, Medicine, Law.
Janet Margetts, who has had a long career in Accountancy, is our Company Secretary and is in charge of Pay Roll and billing. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the management of our financial affairs.
Jackie Rescorlla, who has a Certificate in Business Administration, is our Administrator dealing with host family applications and data base, student allocations as well as all general enquiries.
We are assisted by an efficient team of Centre Supervisors whose role is to visit and select our host families, be in direct contact with all our students and group leaders in their areas, look after students’ general welfare and ensure the smooth running of all our programmes. They are also on call for emergencies.
Mercator English Language Training is the first and only language school based in Cornwall with British Council Accreditation. We registered as a Limited Company in 1987 in St. Austell which is close to the Eden Project. We applied for British Council Accreditation in 1996 in order to reassure our students of our expertise and professionalism.
