Based in Stoke-on-Trent in the Heart of the Potteries, Commercial Clay Ltd are leading producers of pottery clays and consultants in ceramic technology. Established in 1982 by Peter Stokes who has spent the previous 20 years of his career in research and development and technical/quality control, covering all aspects of ceramic production. Commercial Clay Ltd offers a wide range of pottery clays, including the exclusive Magma Range, whilst also offering a bespoke service to cater for all client needs.

Producer of Pottery Clays, supplying craft, education and industry potters who produce products ranging from fine porcelain jewellery through to tableware and industrial pipes, bricks and tiles.

Commercial Clay Ltd was established in 1982 by our principal Peter Stokes. Peter left school at 16yrs of age and joined the Ceramic Industry initially as a ceramic technician in the laboratories of a number of companies within Stoke. During this time he gained experience in colours and glazes, technical ceramics and tableware. He attended the local college on a day release/night school for 10yrs, completing the Pottery Manager Certificate and Associateship of the Institute of Ceramics. During this time he gained numerous Governors Awards and Medals. During the recession in the pottery industry in the early 80’s Peter became redundant, which led him on to establish Commercial Clay, a company that has grown by reputation and now supplies a wide range of clays to industry, craft and education.
