This family run company has a long history in leathergoods dating back to 1888 when William Edwin Charlesworth left the British Army after returning home from the 2nd Boer War to set up his own business.
Having learnt his trade in the Army, serving as a master saddler and harness maker it was an obvious decision to continue to utilise his skills making and repairing leather goods.
Setting up home in South East London, he based the business in a busy market, East Street SE17, where it thrived for over 100 years.
His sons, also named William, and Arthur, continued in the family tradition of leathergoods. Arthur decided to launch a separate career, whilst William stayed with his father eventually taking over the running of the original business.
During World War II the business suffered a major setback, the main home and business premises receiving a direct hit during the Blitz in 1941.
With the business in disarray, his wife Agnes and their youngest son, Sidney, worked tirelessly to rebuild the family retail business, going on to create a manufacturing and wholesale base as well as diversifying into luggage, selling principally through its own retail units in London.
Back on track the business diversified further into importing Italian shoes and bags, while still maintaining its manufacturing unit.
With the advent of cheap imports squeezing out UK leathergoods manufacture, and the internet making running retail shops increasingly uneconomic, the family decided to go to a purely internet based company.
Here the business is able to use its importing knowledge and connections, four generations of leather working skills, and retailing experience and service to ensure that our online customers receive the highest quality leathergoods at the best possible prices, delivered to their doors.
