Castings Services was formed in 1982 and was originally part of a group of related companies based within John Statham Builders Merchants in Swinton, Manchester. Roger Fulton was the director and sole employee of the company and the product range was purely municipal castings which he supplied to other local merchants around Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
In 1984 the company was bought out of the group by Roger and Mick Savill, a director of another group company. They relocated to Trafford Park where they occupied the old security office and bicycle park of what had been Trafford Carpets. During this time Mick and Roger handled everything from sales to deliveries until 1985 when the first delivery driver was employed.
By 1987 the company had out grown its home with 7 staff members and 3 delivery vehicles so larger premises were found nearby to accommodate the new staff and additional products including concrete chamber sections and gully pots. Just 2 years later a new site was acquired in the Agecroft area of Salford and our own, purpose built, office and warehouse were constructed within the one acre yard.
Our first dealings in the Telecoms market, then referred to as Cable TV, was in 1990. We began supplying specialist covers to the many MSOs in the newly emerging market. We increased our product range again to include more telecom related products such as cable management systems.
In 1993 we began stocking a very small range of pipes, fittings and valves for the water and waste water industry as the products are used in the same market.
The company grew steadily over the following years and Mick retired in 2001 leaving Roger to continue to run the company. In 2002 we formed a specialist valve team who oversaw the expansion of our valve product portfolio. This saw the introduction of larger bore valves up to 2000mm and new valve types such as plug valves and fire hydrants which allowed us to target new markets including aeration and fire protection.
Building on the success of the valve division we followed suit with pipeline products in 2004 and introduced a full range of EN598 and EN545 ductile iron fittings. We also began supplying the associated flange adaptors, couplings, repair clamps and flange convertors.
In the subsequent years we have continued to improve our product designs and introduce new and innovative solutions to the market. Our current focus is on off-site construction and we are working with other like minded manufacturers to develop innovative products, safer ways of working and cost savings through intelligent design.
