BIFA's Nomination Committee advises and makes recommendations on rules, categories and voting processes. Its main function is as the core of the nominations process. The Committee is comprised of the chairs of the voting sub-committees. As such they have final say on eligibility, they share information from their sub-committees about the best films that their group has seen, and they confirm the long list and nominations, based on the votes of all BIFA voters.
This award highlights innovation, uniqueness of vision, maverick filmmaking and risk-taking, generally in fiction films with a budget under £500k.
