“When it comes to insurance, I’ve followed in my father’s footsteps. As a stubborn 18 year-old I refused to join the family business, preferring to start my career as an Underwriter with Prudential. It was a great foundation, but eventually I gave-in and joined Dad’s company together with my brothers. It was great working with the family, but by 2013 I realised I wanted to do my own thing. So, here I am.
Because I work independently I’m able to tailor my service to each individual client and offer them complete flexibility – it’s one of the things I love about working on my own. However, I acknowledge that in order for my fees to remain competitive I need to be part of a bigger network; that’s why I’m a member of Compass Network. This gives me access to markets at a national level which effectively gives me exactly the same buying power as large national firms. My clients get the best of both worlds.
Over and above my 30 years’ experience, I’m also formally qualified as an Insurance Advisor having passed my CII Diploma in 2011. I never take for granted that it is a big responsibility dealing with these matters for my clients; and I never lose sight of the fact they place a great deal of trust in me. One of the very simple ways I reinforce this trust is by making sure I always do what I say I will; it never ceases to amaze me that this is a principle so often overlooked.
Having run a larger company as well as now being as a sole business owner, I have first-hand knowledge of the sort of issues my clients sometimes face and that definitely helps. Plus I’m a family man so I understand some of their domestic challenges too, for instance children growing into teenagers…..
