About Bristol Heart Imaging
Bristol Heart Imaging Ltd was founded in 2010 by Consultant Cardiac Radiologists Dr Mark Hamilton and Dr Nathan Manghat. We have the experience, expertise and specialist training required to achieve our aim of providing the highest quality diagnostic imaging needs of our referring clinicians and patients. We both work in the Bristol Royal Infirmary, the major regional cardiac centre for the South West of England and South Wales and provide comprehensive cardiovascular imaging services for adult and paediatric heart disease in CT and MRI. In addition Mark is a recognised expert in echocardiography and Nathan in vascular intervention.
We are members of the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register to practise general radiology. In addition, we both have a firm clinical background as practising physicians having obtained the diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and considerable experience of clinical cardiology. We both also undertook a period of Fellowship training in Cardiac Radiology at the world-renowned and prestigious Green Lane Cardiovascular Service in Auckland, New Zealand before taking up our substantive consultant posts at the BRI.
Many practitioners do not have the expertise to interpret all structures that are scanned during your examination. Our training ensures we are able to study and accurately interpret the heart and all non cardiac structures.
Heart disease, both congenital and acquired, in their many forms continues to be the most common cause of illness and death in the Western World. Timely and accurate diagnosis is therefore essential to guide clinical management and help improve the quality of life and survival of patients.
If you have been diagnosed with a heart condition that may require further investigation with cardiac imaging, or indeed, if you are concerned about the possibility of an underlying heart problem, we may be able to help you.
With the increasing availability of high-end cardiac specification scanning technologies, comes an increasing responsibility to provide high quality and accurate cardiac diagnostics. In order to provide a specialist cardiac radiology service, it is vital to have the necessary training and experience.
BHI provides you with this expertise you require, coupled with extensive research and clinical experience. Scanning is performed on state-of-the-art technologies available to us at the Bristol Heart Institute, Bristol Royal Infirmary and The Spire Bristol Hospital.
Whatever your cardiac imaging needs, we would be delighted to offer you any help and advice with which imaging modality can help you to best answer your clinical questions.
Having qualified in 1991 from the University of Dundee, Dr Hamilton began specialist radiology training in September 1997 in Sheffield. From 2002-3 he was Fellow in Cardiac Radiology at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester (a large regional cardiothoracic centre) before moving to New Zealand where he was a Fellow in Cardiac Radiology from 2003-5 at the internationally renowned Greenlane and Auckland City Hospitals. In 2005 Dr Mark Hamilton was appointed an NHS consultant at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
