ABOUT NORTH NORFOLK CHORALE LTD
The North Norfolk Chorale was founded as the North Walsham Choral Society in 1873 and is one of the oldest choral societies in East Anglia. There had always been a tradition of singing and drama in the town’s Fisher Theatre, which had opened in 1828 and led to the formation of the choral society some forty years later. The music of the newly formed society reflected the fashion of the period with a repertoire of madrigals, comic operas, ballads and, during the two world wars, concerts of patriotic songs were popular.
The name was changed in 1997 in order to reflect the wider catchment area of choir members and we became the North Norfolk Chorale. The choir is now a registered charity.
Alison was, for six years, the editor of The North Norfolk Informer, which she co-founded, and has written articles for Elle magazine in Sweden and The World of Interiors. She was one of the team involved in the restoration and installation of the new ring of eight bells at East Raynham church and is one of the regular ringers on a Monday evening. She has taken singing lessons with Geoffrey Davidson and Rosemary Kimmins, and is a member of the chamber Cantilena Choir, which is directed by Rosemary Kimmins. North Norfolk Chorale is a choral society, established in North Walsham since 1873. We perform the great choral works of music, sometimes with orchestra or organ, as well as more recent works by composers such as John Rutter and Karl Jenkins.
