Welcome to Character Conservation

Established in 2006, Character Conservation is a small building surveying consultancy based near Cirencester, Gloucestershire. We offer an independent and professional service for all aspects of repairing, maintaining and improving historic buildings, whilst striving to retain those qualities which define their intrinsic character and appearance.

Our client base spans the public, private and ecclesiastical sectors, including other architectural and surveying practices who engage us for specific heritage projects. Drawing on a wide range of skills and experience, we can provide reasoned advice and guidance at any stage of a conservation, repair or refurbishment project. We typically work with our clients from the initial ‘ideas’ phase through to project completion, helping realise their objectives for the historic building against what is realistic within the bounds of good conservation practice and the statutory constraints imposed by the listed building consent (LBC) framework.

Focusing primarily on vernacular stone buildings within the Cotswolds region, our knowledge of traditional materials and working practices will help to ensure that your building is properly cared for without compromising its historic character or appearance. All of the services which we offer have been applied to our own grade II listed cottage at some stage over the past 17 years, so we can demonstrate practical application and beneficial end results gained through experience!
