This is how Victoria Williams, Founder, describes how terptree started:
terptree was officially born! ‘terp’ short for Interpreter and ‘tree’ just because Victoria loves trees – this business’s ambition has grown substantially since its beginnings just providing Sign Language Interpreting Services.
Now with a grand mission to
, terptree has evolved to support some of the largest global brands and public services affect change by creating a world-class deaf customer experience.
terptree is now a multi award winning business full of deeply passionate people who care about creating social change and truly education and empowering deaf and hearing people.
describes clearly the journey the terptree has taken – “She could make a difference to the way that the deaf community experience the world, helping to make it fairer and more accessible. Not just by interpreting, but by taking her team’s insight, expertise and experience out to institutions and employers, and helping society to change. Practical steps, achievable improvements, making her own contribution and helping others to contribute too.”
Max is always at the heart of what terptree does – and acts as a motivation for Victoria to truly make the world a place where deaf people can exist equally to hearing people.
Our business achievements are so tightly woven into the communities in which we work in, meaning each and every project, product, or service that we launch makes a significant impact on the change we wish to inspire not just in the UK; but across the world.
In order to achieve even more social impact, we are working with Buy 1 Give 1 and donating to deaf-related projects across the globe when you start doing business with us.
Simply put, terptree are driving the way forward in leading social change across the world for deaf people.
terptree has established itself as a pioneer and thought leader in the industry, paving the way for new ways of working within the deaf community that no other organisation in its sector are doing.
One year on after registering as an Interpreter, she felt like she had achieved her big goal, but still knew that more impact needed be made. On considering what she had learnt and what could be offered to the Deaf Community – terptree was born with a strong mission to change the world for deaf people.
Victoria and the terptree team are actively working on projects that change the world for deaf people every day. Victoria has a drive about her that is contagious and she truly, deeply believes and cares about the work that she is doing. She is able to share her unique insights into how services can best be provided for deaf people whilst being able to creatively look at cost effective solutions that can have a huge impact on delivery.
Victoria truly lives, eats and breathes this stuff with her brain constantly brimming with concepts, ideas and solutions. When she’s not wearing her terptree hat, she is busy enjoying the best things in life with her husband and two young children. Loving her eventful social life, theatre, music, great food all with a glass of Champagne.
Debbie came to terptree with over 25 years of work experience gained from both the private and public sector. She started her career within the Lord Chancellor’s Department in 1990 and worked within tribunals and in the House of Lords, before moving into the Internal Audit department, where she trained to become a fully qualified internal auditor. She is CMIIA (Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors) qualified and in 1999 moved into a private accountancy practice to further her career.
From here, she was promoted through the business and became Director of the Internal Audit Division within the London office of the practice. She worked with a large range of clients within the public and private sector and was responsible for a team of up to 100 staff. During this time, she gained a vast amount of experience in working in a number of industries, including universities, charities, corporates and financial services. One of her most rewarding pieces of work was working alongside the World Food Programme to develop their Internal Audit Manual and Train their team.
In 2011, she decided on a change of direction and started her own business as a Lifestyle Coach, where she worked with a number of people to help them make personal changes in their lives.
Since joining terptree she has worked closely alongside Victoria to develop business strategy and to promote excellence in the company’s operations. She has overall financial responsibility and ensures that our team exceed our client’s expectations in everything they do.
Alice joined terptree’s Customer Loyalty Team after finishing her degree of Theatre Arts, Education, and Deaf Studies at the University of Reading a few days before. She undertook two weeks of work experience with terptree in her University summer break as part of her degree and now holds a position in the company, which she thinks is very exciting indeed!
