“An excellent course, I can't believe how much we did over the weekend. We shared ideas and were shown the safest ways to provide assistance to each other; working in pairs and making decisions quickly. The course put into practice lots of ideas and techniques I'm sure to use in the future. Cheers Ash for a really good weekend."
"Ash really cares for the people he works with and knows his stuff. He has a knack for breaking the complex into simple, easy to follow steps that work and he is an explorer in every sense of the word. In the 12 years I’ve known him Ash has continually explored new activities, new areas and new approaches to his own teaching and performance, making him a vibrant and exciting person to learn from and spend time with."
"Having been away with Ash on a couple of short British trips to Mid Wales, The Lakes and Snowdonia, as well as a month long expedition to Sichuan in China, I can vouch for his consummate professionalism, and kindness. He is a great leader, with genuine, insightful, people skills and a very sound technical knowledge. He is always keen to develop those he is working with, be it in terms of self-esteem and personal growth or by adding new tools to their repertoire. He is also highly efficient, well organised and meticulous in his planning. As if this were not enough he genuinely cares about the team he is looking after and is superb company on the hill. What more could one want….."
" I have done many courses with Ash and Outdoor Resources over the last few years while studying at the University of Cumbria. He is an outstanding instructor, he has helped me to improve my kayaking skills and my confidence in myself at the same time; even when I’m not doing a course with him, he is always there to answer any questions I have, no matter what they are. The courses were run smoothly and in great detail, he made sure everyone understood what was happening and always demonstrated things that people were unsure of. Overall, he is one of the best instructors I know, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a qualification."
" Yesterday Ash took me over to Hellvellyn in preparation for my WML Assessment in a few weeks and it has to be one of the most valuable hill days that I have ever had, even more so than other specific training courses I have attended. Ash was able to cover lots of topic areas, whilst making the whole experience just feel like a hill day. Any lessons learned were relevant to the ground we were on and conducted as part of a 'journey' to the top of the hill. We covered step cutting, bucket seats, buried axes, stomper belays, as well as achieving a grade 1 climb and a summit. The teaching was completely student focused. Ash encourages you to come up with your own answers and practise your existing knowledge, whilst 'topping you up' and giving you a few helpful pointers that make you wonder why you ever did it any differently!! My confidence has improved dramatically as a result. All in all an excellent day and I look forward to getting out with Ash again in the near future."
