McChesney Architects design special projects in sensitive settings that are unambiguously engaging and enjoyable to use. Established in 2001 by Ian McChesney, the office has gained recognition for its highly distinctive cross-disciplinary work embracing architecture, urban design and public art. The office is scaled and structured to ensure consistent design direction and rigorous attention to detail at every stage. A small studio with a big reach, McChesney Architects regularly collaborates with affiliate consultants to support and enrich the delivery of its highly specialised pieces of work. Art and technology come together through closely coordinated design, engineering and fabrication processes which emphasize the craft of making, unique to each challenge.

Ian McChesney MA RCA RIBA

Ian McChesney was born in Glasgow in 1971. He studied at Kingston University and then at the Royal College of Art in London. Between 1995 and 2001 he worked in the office of John McAslan + Partners on projects for Thames and Hudson and the Royal Academy of Music. In 2001 Ian established McChesney Architects.  Ian is a visiting critic at various schools of architecture and was a recent external examiner at Oxford Brookes University. Ian has been actively involved in formal design review roles for Southwark, and currently for Design Southeast.
