There are very many styles of psychotherapy and counselling, too many to list in detail here. Many people wonder how many sessions they are likely to need and over what period of time; unfortunately, this will depend on so many factors, including how long you have experienced the problem for and your personal 'style', that it's impossible to predict with any certainty. Most therapists have more than one skill at their disposal and it's always a good idea to speak to several in your area to see who you feel is most likely to provide the help you are looking for. Many pracitioners offer a free assessment session, allowing you to discuss you difficulties without any obligation top embark on a course of therapy or counselling.
Psychotherapy or Counselling?
Psychotherapy and counselling are both 'talking therapies' and it is impossible to differentiate between them. They both involve you talking to the practitioner, often more than the practitioner will be talking to you, and both involve helping you to discover and use your own resources to resolve your issues in the most effective way possible. All NRPC practitioners are properly qualified, competent and insured and have to abide by a strict code of ethics (which you can find elsewhere on this site) so you can be confident that the therapy you receive will be both suitable for you and conducted only for as long as you need it.

Psychodynamic Counselling
: Strictly not psychotherapy, though many psychotherapists and counsellors use it effectively.
Most practitioners are not skilled in every single one of those methods listed here (and there are actually a lot more besides) but again, will usually have more than one working method available to them. It might be the case that you are sure you already know which styke of therapy you need, in which case seek the practitiioners on this site who list that among their skills. Otherwise, contact two or three who are within your travelling area and either have a meeting with them or speak to them on the telephone - it is absolutely essential that you feel at ease and confident with your therapist/counsellor if you are to get the results you seek.
