Coates Marine was first established by Mike Coates on its current site in 1990, and was set up to cover most of the needs of the small boat owner. The business was purchased by William Uppington and Stephen Hammond in 1998 and is now under the control of Stephen Hammond. The company employs six, very experienced people willing to assist and advise in all aspects of boat maintenance and operation.
The company operates a 16 tonne boatlift capable of lifting boats out of the water from the harbour slipway or off road transport. The lift can handle motor cruisers and yachts up to 42 feet long and 13 feet wide, transporting them into the boatyard. Within our compound, we have space to store up to fifty vessels for owners to work upon or they can be brought inside our workshop for our engineers to repair, refurbish or repaint. We have extensive experience in the repair of glass fibre and wooden boats, and have carried out many projects over the years to a high degree of customer satisfaction.
Coates Marine engineers will repair and maintain inboard and outboard engines and other ancillary equipment. We can also supply and fit new engines from a range of manufacturers.
Through the Northern Spars and Rigging Services section of our company, we supply masts, booms etc, and rigging, roll swaged up to 12mm diameter. A static crane within our yard is used to remove and refit masts. We are the north of England agents for the supply of equipment from Selden Masts and can supply equipment from other manufacturers
Coates Marine has a comprehensive chandlery, with many thousands of items in stock, such as paints, antifoul, rope, boat maintenance products, rigging items etc. We currently sell products through our shop and into the workshop, and through this web site we intend to supply more products mail order.
We look forward to assisting you in your purchases and wish to assure you of the highest standards of customer service, delivery and product quality.
