IMIU International Mining Industry Underwriters specialises in providing insurance products for property, business interruption, and construction risks to mining companies around the world.

Originally established in 1995 by Patrick Plaisted, IMIU from the start was founded on the principal that this difficult and highly volatile class of business could only be successfully underwritten on the basis of good technical information. With this in mind risk engineering has been at the heart of everything we do. Our team of highly experienced risk engineers, all of whom have had long and successful careers within the mining industry, have earned a global reputation for the quality of their engineering and the risk improvement measures that they are able to identify for the benefit of our clients.

IMIU underwrites as part of the International Insurance Company of Hannover SE (Inter Hannover) that is part of the Hannover Re group, the world’s third largest reinsurer. The rating agencies most relevant to the insurance industry have awarded Inter Hannover very strong insurer financial strength ratings (Standard & Poor’s AA- “Very Strong” and A.M. Best A+ “Superior”).

IMIU specialises in providing insurance for property, business interruption and construction risks to mining companies worldwide.

IMIU was established in 1995 and has developed an extensive portfolio of business, which includes some of the world’s largest mining conglomerates and also some of the mining industry minnows.

We offer a broad range of coverage for all aspects of the mining industry’s activities, including associated downstream processing. Our company has become one of the leading global insurers/reinsurers for this class of business and underwrites businesses located throughout the world.
