Dyson supports its UK retail partners, including John Lewis and Currys, by providing in-store experts to demonstrate Dyson products to customers. The challenge faced by Dyson was to find and hire candidates that were excellent communicators with a flair for influencing customers and delivering sales but were needed only during weekends and bank holidays . Dyson wanted to increase the numbers of experts as well as open their own retail store so they looked for a partner with expertise in retail recruitment.

This was a very challenging project for everyone involved and the two teams worked remarkably hard and well together. Quite simply we would not have achieved our objectives without their help.”
ResourceBank managed an assessment project of over a thousand staff enabling Balfour Beatty CSUK to re-align and restructure their business to meet changing market demands
Part of Balfour Beatty Group, Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK (CSUK) is one of the UK’s largest commercial construction companies. It provides an extensive range of construction services employing more than 2,400 professionals nationwide.
CSUK needed to undertake a restructuring exercise in order to realise their vision of transforming CSUK to be a more integrated business that operated in the most agile and efficient way, to be acknowledged, valued and rewarded as the business that defines its sector. The overall aim was to realign the business with new values and capabilities and to create a new fully integrated structure aligned to six common tiers. It was expected that headcount would reduce from approximately 2,850 employees to 2,350.
A central website was designed and created by ResourceBank to communicate key information to all CSUK staff, and to provide an online application system which linked to the ResourceBank database, enabling candidates to view the job roles they had been pooled for, access any useful information and to apply.
The entire end-to-end process was managed and co-ordinated by ResourceBank—from the design of the assessment process, the creation of questions and marking schemes, the selection and briefing of assessors, the production of assessment materials, the management of assessment interviews, the co-ordination of assessment results and the delivery of detailed reports for each tier, function and location.
ResourceBank provided a professional and responsive service with robust and effective assessment methodologies and materials which were embraced by Balfour Beatty personnel.
The central team provided valuable and welcome support to applicants over the phone during the process, showing empathy to their circumstances and ensuring the process was as efficient as would allow, highlighting and escalating potential issues as they arose.
ResourceBank has had an amazing impact on our company. They’ve proved they can deliver during periods of intense pressure”
WDF first outsourced recruitment to ResourceBank in 2007 when the business needed to recruit more than 150 new team members for the opening of its new ‘flagship’ store at London Heathrow Terminal 5. Due to project delays and the lead time for security clearance (then 3 months), all candidates had to be assessed, interviewed, security checked and offered within 12 weeks. ResourceBank RPO responded to the challenge—implementing a dedicated resourcing team which recruited all 150 team members on time.
Geoff Hall, Head of HR at World Duty Free commented, “In a very short timeframe, the ResourceBank team gained a thorough insight into our business and recruitment requirements, set up and managed the World Duty Free careers website (www.wdfcareers.co.uk) and provided us with excellent candidates. The efficient processes which they set up helped to improve the candidate experience and it soon became very clear that ResourceBank was helping us to employ better quality candidates whilst reducing our retail recruitment costs”.
WDF is the UK’s leading travel retailer with stores at 21 airports throughout the UK. Delivering exceptional customer experience is at the heart of everything the business does, but increased traffic in summer seasons as well as major events such as the Olympics means that effective candidate resourcing is a logistical challenge. In addition, World Duty Free stores compete for talent with leading department stores such as House of Fraser and John Lewis. However, WDF is at a disadvantage to these brands because their outlets are “airside” and each candidate requires security clearance. This can take up to 3 months – a particular challenge for summer peak seasonal recruitment. The airside nature means that candidates need to be regular international travellers to have a significant experience of the brand – and few retail candidates can afford this travel. Resourcing for WDF thus needs to attract and engage potential candidates as well as managing high volume recruitment campaigns at certain times of the year—putting onus on efficiency and process effectiveness .
