Using the contacts built up in agency, Percy set up a building company, predominately refurbishing high-end flats and houses across Prime Central London. Having started off with relatively simple refurbishment contracts, he progressed to much larger projects involving major structural work. He worked very closely with two particular architects, both of whom he tended to use for all the major projects.
In 2006, having moved his family out of London, he co-founded a development company which undertook the development of 12,000 sq’ of Grade 2 listed farm buildings, transforming them into high-end residential units. He led the project management side of the business as well as handling the planning and listed building consents, building control as well as the entire build programme, including managing a permanent team of twelve on-site personnel and many additional sub-contractors.
In 2010 an opportunity arose to co-found a renewable energy company specialising in small-scale hydro-electricity generation, predominantly across Scotland. As the MD and working from offices in Banbury and Inverness, he was responsible for the day-to-day running of the company managing a team across a wide variety of disciplines. His duties involved managing projects, liaising with both current and future clients, organising sales, marketing, business development and handling contractual documents with strategic partners as well as reporting regularly to the Board of Directors in London. He was also actively involved in raising equity for the company in the City in 2010 and assisted with the securing of a successful £15m investor offer of funding for future joint venture clients. The company was sold in 2012.
