We started the business in January 2004, in the South Molton Pannier Market on Saturday mornings. This was a way to sell the jam we made with the surplus fruit we started growing for local hotels and restaurants.
Within two years we stopped selling our fruit as we needed it all for our jams! We ended up extending our fruit patch to 2.5 acres in order to keep up with demand.
In 2015 we moved from North Devon to a more central location in Mid Devon. This involved replacing a falling down stable block with a purpose made building for the jam business. Still located at home and with even more land for fruit growing and many well established fruit trees into the bargain.
We do now produce a considerable quantity of jam annually, but we still only use small batches in our preserving pans. Everything is made traditionally, as you would if you were making it in your own kitchen. Some of our recipes are third and fourth generation and Ann has created many herself with a modern twist.
During our peak time, the summer when most of the fruit needs picking and a whole heap of other fruit is available, we call in the family. We have a selection of nieces and nephews who come and help not only with fruit growing, but you can also see them helping us on our stand Shows. One of Ann’s nieces has now joined the business full time.
Waterhouse Fayre
Waterhouse Fayre makes award winning handmade jams, preserves, chutneys and marmalades in the heart of Devon.
We have a wide range of flavours that are handmade to the highest quality. We produce individual jars which you can buy online in our shop or from a wide range of stockist in the South West. We also provide our products for caterers - hotels, restaurants and tea rooms.
When Ann Stallard began making homemade jam in her kitchen back in January 2004 from home grown produce, she could not have envisaged where those early days would lead.
Initially a creative way to make use of surplus home grown raspberries, Waterhouse Fayre preserves can now be found throughout the West Country; in farm shops, delicatessens, specialist cheese shops as well as tea rooms, restaurants and hotels. Waterhouse Fayre’s first award was in that very first year, a gold Taste of the West Award for Raspberry Jam.
Waterhouse Fayre recently relocated from South Molton to the outskirts of Tiverton – where custom facilities were added to the family home. These new premises allow Ann’s family centred team, including her husband Neil and niece Lucy, to continue developing and producing creative products that you won’t find anywhere else. The new home also had 7 acres, plenty of scope for more fruit growing too, which is Neil’s responsibility.
