From an early age my life was about books! As a child it was all I was interested in and would read anything and everything that was to hand. This continued at university where I was able to combine it with my francophile tendencies and gain an honours degree in French language and literature. Following a year teaching at the University of Rennes in Brittany. I set about trying to break into publishing – any kind of publishing would do. After a year and over a hundred applications I was successful and joined a legal publishing company, determining the direction of my career from that point on.
I spent sixteen years working as editor, publishing editor, subscription publisher, and business development manager in large multinational publishing houses and managing a small but busy in-house publications department in an international not-for-profit organisation. During this time I gained broad and comprehensive experience, taking in traditional print media, online publishing and website management. I also managed to find time to study for a postgraduate diploma in Modern European Studies.
Ten years ago I fulfilled a long-held ambition and set up my own publishing and editorial consultancy. I now work with a number of publishing companies, both large and small, providing a variety of services as set out elsewhere on this website. However, the learning never stops and five years ago I achieved a diploma in translation (French to English) from the Institute of Linguists. The freedom that working for myself gives me has also allowed me time to pick up again an activity I had long pushed to one side – creative writing (mainly short stories at the moment); whilst I, like most people, dream of publishing the next big novel, for now I am happy to write as a hobby, and who knows what might happen. Follow my blog for more about my writing exploits. Living in Norwich, the UK’s only UNESCO World City of Literature, provides great encouragement.

Fresh from university with an honours degree in French, and following a year teaching in a French university, I entered the publishing industry and spent sixteen years working in-house, mainly in professional publishing. During that time I gained wide experience in various areas of the publishing business, working as editor, publishing editor, subscription publisher, and business development manager in large multinational publishing houses and heading up a small but busy in-house publications department in an international not-for-profit organisation.
