Whilst much of our work occurs within studios based in Central London, we are able to travel to most parts of the East and South East, including London, Essex, Kent, Suffolk and will consider other areas. We are also available for shoots outside on location as well as within a studio.
We are now developing quite a portfolio of all the celebrities, actors, producers, record labels, magazines and television programmes we have supplied animals for. Our experience within this field means we have staff that are used to the demands when working with a large team of people.
We respect that our reptiles and spiders are wild animals and not domesticated the frequent handling we do with our animals and their experience of interactive encounters mean that for most aspects they are considered tame or trained. Handlers are always on standby to offer advice and if we have any concerns over an animal’s behaviour we can intervene. Our understanding of the animals means we are also aware of how to provoke particular reactions. For example for a music video we needed to get the snake to strike/bite and this was successfully completed for the director.
Our snakes and lizards have appeared in advertising campaigns for magazines and newspapers as well as recruitment fairs to help promote and advertise new products and clothing ranges; such as “snake heels” for More magazine.
CGI techniques have also been used to study the movement of our salamander for a nature documentary on the National Geographic channel. Sensors were used to record its movement this was edited and mixed with some filming to create the finished television product. Filming an animal on location in its natural environment is unpredictable and can cause stress if it is not used to being handled. This is where snakes alive can be used to supply a variety of reptiles, amphibians, arachnids and mini beasts for close up filming and photography to support natural footage.
Belle, our Boa Constrictor, has appeared on stage in a London Theatre production and was a big hit and provided an impressive wow factor for the audience. Our friendly staff were able to guide the actors through the correct handling techniques and safety advice and provide confidence building to nervous participants. We remained on hand throughout the entire performance as we never leave our animals unattended.

Snakes alive was established in 1996 with a focus on supplying reptiles (lizards, tortoises and snakes), amphibians (frogs, salamanders, newts, toads), arachnids (spiders and scorpions) and bugs (from Giant Centipedes to snails) for animal hire and media work. It is currently run by Daniel & Peter Hepplewhite who have over 30 years’ experience with reptiles.
The company carries £10m public liability insurance and a risk assessment is available upon request. We old a Performing Animals Licence so all our clients can have peace of mind knowing they are dealing with a professional company who have undergone animal and premise inspections with their local authority.
