We are old enough to have seen the introduction of home computers and the first personal emails. For those of you who remember, then picking an email address was difficult, as most names had already been taken. The suggestion at the time was to put your name with a number after it....janiceashworth1287 just didn't appeal as I find numbers difficult. I tried loads of different versions of my name and was getting quite cross that I couldn't find anything suitable, Mr Wellydog got fed up of me keep asking what to do and he yelled out, "Just put the blooming dog's name in", so I did. Our dog at the time was called Wellington Boots, Welly for short , so Wellydog was born. Years later when I established my business and moved into a local craft centre, the idea of thinking of a name and getting a new email address seemed too stressful, so I just continued as Wellydog, and the rest as they say is history.
I love making things and painting and the move to Cornwall continued an interest we had in finding beach treasure. We roam the beaches of Cornwall daily with our manic collie, Fin. Picking up rubbish and recycling what we can has become a big part of our business. We especially like seaglass and turning it into beautiful jewellery and pictures. Mr Wellydog jokes we have found 101 things to do with seaglass. My paintings also surround us in our intimate harbourside shop In Hayle. I like to paint waves and coastal harbours to bring a blue and sea washed feel to our walls. And I also paint on feathers we find on the beach. Mr Wellydog's photographs are displayed on cards and in frames, some leather work he has beautifully handcrafted, can also be bought at reasonable prices.
We are assisted at busy events by our lovely daughter Gemma, our Wellydog apprentice. Our dog Fin helps us on the beach by giving us the incentive to get out and about, he's also every good at sniffing out smelly fish, and balls and digging holes.
Our shop is cosy but there is always a warm welcome. You can usually find us Wednesday to Saturdays from 10am to 5pm at 55 Penpol Terrace, Hayle , West Cornwall.
