Welcome to Faircatch
Faircatch is a new way for our community in south-west London to buy the freshest, highest quality fish, while paying local fishermen a fair price and helping to protect our coastal cultural heritage and the marine environment.
Faircatch is a “Community Supported Fishery” (CSF), or fish box scheme, an alternative model for local distribution of super fresh fish. The name derives from Community Supported Agriculture, familiar to many as a veg box scheme. Members can choose how much they’d like, pay upfront for 4/6/8/12 weeks and pick up their fish on their chosen dates from a local collection hub.
The fish we provide each week depends on what has been caught that day, so you can’t choose what species you will receive. However we provide a wide variety over the course of your order including dover sole, pollock, mackerel, brill, john dory, cod, huss, bream and even octopus!
Faircatch (and the CSF model) is designed to:
Provide a framework through which fishermen and consumers alike can creatively steward our marine resources.
about how supermarket fish can be several weeks old, so spoke to some experts in the industry to find out why that’s the case. Based on that advice we designed the infographic below to illustrate how much fresher the fish from Faircatch is and how much more directly it is conveyed to your plate! Storage conditions at sea and in transit are as key to freshness as the length of time from the sea to your kitchen, so we ensure all fish supplied to Faircatch has been treated in the optimal way at every stage.

*The graphic above shows how fresh Faircatch fish will be when landed on a Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. If bad weather prevents our fishermen from fishing on those days, then it may have been landed a little earlier in the week but will still be a great deal fresher than any supermarket.
