Exo Environmental has several core concepts at the heart of its business model. These are enshrined in classic sustainability; making space for water, quality of water through the Water Framework Directive, climate change adaptation and working with nature. The core values have direct and indirect links to government and non-government management plans and strategic directives, this enables Exo to remain responsive to challenges ahead.
The World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) was created to address the concerns about ‘the accelerating deterioration of the human environment and natural resources and the consequences of that deterioration for economic and social development’. As such, the concept of sustainable development emphasises a few common principles. Firstly, the commitment to equity and fairness. Secondly, the prevention of environmental degradation. Thirdly, that sustainable development embodies an integration between environment, economy and society.

EXO Environmental have brought experience, innovative thinking and practical know how, to our investigations into dredging in the Somerset Levels and Moors. As a result, the possible approaches to reducing flood risk, whilst providing benefits to agriculture and minimising environmental disruption are much clearer and we are encouraged that dredging trials, in Partnership with the Environment Agency, will start soon.
Exo Environmental has now worked with us on multiple projects. Of note recently was a large-scale dredging project on the non-tidal River Thames that had specific challenges relating to location, environmental issues and beneficial use of dredged sediment.
Exo Environmental completed the works in a timely fashion and delivered comprehensive and clear reports. The project was managed by William Coulet, who maintained good communication throughout the project and was a pleasure to work with. We would not hesitate to seek assistance from Exo Environmental on future projects.
Throughout this project, the Commissioners and Harbour staff were impressed by the approaches taken by Exo Environmental and the specialist knowledge provided. The successful completion of the programme was a tribute to the positive working relationship between Exo Environmental, Port Flair (Bradwell) and Harbour staff.
When I was approached by Exo Environmental to collaborate on a project investigating the use of geosynthetic fabrics to trap sediment and provide habitat for microbial biofilms I jumped at the chance. I could immediately see the potential of this innovative approach for building more environmentally friendly sea defences, providing both protection and habitat to support biodiversity.
