I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up with horses, or even go to the races as a child, and it was only when I was looking for a hiding place from school that I ended up helping out in a racing yard and taught myself to ride. For the first time in my life I had found something that I enjoyed doing... I guess I had the bug!
For the next 15 years, I worked hard in the industry progressing from stable-lad, to head-lad and then Assistant Trainer. I also held Conditional and Amateur jockey licences, riding winners on the track and in point-to-points. I was privileged enough to work alongside some excellent trainers and with top quality horses in both Ireland and the UK, and all this experience helped me to formulate my own style of training.
We made the switch to our new base after achieving our best tally of 38 winners across both codes in 2016. The new yard will allow us to accommodate more horses, has plenty of room for further expansion, and provides a terrific location with first-rate facilities which we hope will take us to the next level and enable us to develop the horses even further.
Our new training centre is the culmination of nearly 12 months planning and hard work, and we are very grateful to our landlords Steve and Anita Mares, owners of Kidderminster-based company Trueline Expanded Products, who developed the site. They have been long-standing supporters of racing who have horses in training with us, and have offered us the opportunity to grow, in the best possible surroundings.
