NEWS Independent Careers Service Ltd, is a small, Bristol based provider of tailored careers information, advice and guidance services. At NEWS we feel it is essential for the wellbeing of local communities and people (as well as the economy nationally), that all young people are equipped with the knowledge, skills and tools to realise their full potential. At the heart of this objective is our aim to provide young people with the ability to plan their careers effectively.
“The governing body must ensure that the independent careers guidance provided:
NEWS takes pride in our ability to deliver independent and impartial careers guidance. We are here to provide your students with the support they need to achieve a career they want.
As a locally-based company, we understand local needs
As a company we are big enough for you to rely on – someone will always be there to deliver your dedicated service – but not so big as to seem corporate and impersonal
NEWS Independent Careers Service has been providing one to one careers interviews to our students for the past four years. They are completely independent and impartial, giving our students all the options and routes available to enable them to make an informed choice.
Since working in partnership with NEWS, our CEIAG has never been better. We are now seeing the benefits this is making to our students, who have valued the opportunity to have a face to face careers interview.
My careers advisor helped with my college applications and I can see myself going to college now.
It was amazing and helped me a lot to prepare for my future.
I thought it would be a lecture but it’s really helpful to know how my favourite subjects connect and what course I can do and what I need to do it. Feel very motivated now and excited about the course we discussed.
NEWS’s impartial careers service has been an important part of our growth, development and vision as a school in the last 12 months, and we have found NEWS’s support to be invaluable in helping us to identify even more ways to focus on careers, enabling the young people of our school to take even greater ownership of their learning and the shaping of their futures.
NEWS have supported us to raise aspirations in the school by giving students a more in-depth understanding of their options on their progression path, from Year 7 through to Year 11; they have provided engaging assemblies and group works, and given one to one interviews, as well as offering more targeted support to help reduce NEETs. The young people our careers adviser, works with are always made to feel valued and supported as individuals during challenging times and we have had great feedback from them too.
Since we have engaged in the services that NEWS represents in terms of Career and engagement we feel that the impact has been huge. We have some very challenging cases and those we fear of becoming NEET are sometimes particularly hard to reach yet through the Engagement worker process which NEWS has provided we have been able to engage a number of students with great success. Success being defined by increased attendance and college places being secured with a focus on a positive future.
NEWS have demonstrated that they are an organised, professional careers company. St Bernadette’s Catholic Secondary School have contracted NEWS to offer Independent , Impartial Careers Advice to our year10 & 11 students since 2013. We have had great feedback from our students who really value this service and our advisor has become a valued member of the St Bernadette team.
According to recent reports, impartial careers service provision to schools, academies, training providers and colleges is currently inconsistent. Click
