ABOUT SHREWSBURY PREPATORIA LIMITED

Shrewsbury Prepatoria warmly welcomes children and families seeking a new and innovative Reggio Emilia early years education. Here, being an individual really counts.

Shrewsbury Prepatoria was born out of a desire to create a new model for education for children in the early years. We’ve combined the

We aim to provide the highest quality experience, environment and relationships for children, parents and team members.

Shrewsbury Prepatoria is owned and run by Jane Smalley who has twenty years experience and qualifications in the childcare sector.

Jane lectured in Childhood studies from 2000-2005 before launching Nurserywise, her training and consultancy service. Jane provided advice and guidance for local authorities across the north of England, supporting settings to raise the quality of education and care provided to children. Delivering training for early years teachers and practitioners and writing bespoke training packages, Jane was able to support settings to make considerable improvement. As an Associate trainer for the National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) Jane continues to provide pre-inspection visits to other settings across Central England and delivers training specialised training to day care practitioners.

In 2013 Jane opened Shrewsbury Prepatoria, a unique preparatory school delivering the most comprehensive approach to Reggio Emilia education in the UK.

Jane says,’I have spent most of my working life trying to persuade other people that there is a better way to care for and to educate children. I have realised that the very best way to do this is to lead by example. That is exactly what we are doing at Shrewsbury Prepatoria.’

Jane is a mother of four children and grandparent to seven grandchildren. Jane lives in Shropshire with her husband, Graeme, who is also her business partner.

We are delighted to be graded

Deciding to use a nursery or return to work is probably one of the hardest decisions a parent will ever make. You will want to make sure that the nursery you choose really does have your child’s best interest at heart. But how can you really know what the right place is? Of course you can go on your ‘gut instinct’ or a recommendation of friends or family. What might really help is to have an expert in the industry on hand to guide you through the process.

With 35 years’ experience in child care and early years’ education, Jane Smalley has published what is probably the most comprehensive guide to nursery care ever written. In Jane’s clear and concise style, the book provides a step by step account of what a high quality setting should look like.

This ‘must-have’ guide will be invaluable to parents looking to choose nursery care for their child/ children or help them evaluate care already chosen. Jane’s book is the ‘expert in your pocket’ for choosing a nursery. It tells you what to look for, what questions to ask and provides a handy checklist to help you throughout the process. There’s also some really helpful chapters on other types of child care and providing educational fun play at home.

This book provides nursery owner with the tools and resources to assess current practice and make any changes necessary to raise the quality of care and education delivered in your setting. There’s an abundance of self-assessment tables which not only guide you through the assessment process, but also support the continuous professional development (CPD) of your staff.

Our team and children dine together, family style, helping themselves to the delicious and nutritious food and snacks lovingly prepared by our professional team.

Mrs Chant designs menus to meet the complex dietary needs of children from birth to five years of age. Our full menu choice provides two meat meals each week, consisting of either: chicken, beef, lamb and pork. There is normally one fish dish each week and two vegetarian dishes. The vegetarian menu choice will include some quorn, lentils, pulses and tofu as protein replacements. Second course desserts to accompany the lunch include yoghurt, milk puddings or fruit platter.

We’re on the look out for highly professional practitioners in Early Years Education to join the Shrewsbury Prepatoria team.

We provide an alternative approach to education and care of all children from birth to five years of age. Families looking for something different have been delighted to register their child with us. As a result our numbers have grown rapidly and we are

Applicants must be professional in their approach to working with others and with parents. You must be a well dressed and well presented nursery practitioner and should have an understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach. You must be patient, kind and empathic in your work with children.

4 to 6 hours paid non-contact time is provided each week for the completion of administrative duties.

Lunch time meal is provided for all adults to be eaten with the children.

The philosophies of Reggio Emilia include the belief that children are citizens with rights and those rights must but be supported and promoted by all adults. They believe that children communicate in many ways (The 100 Languages of the Child) and that these ‘languages’ must be supported by adults and through the environment. Reggio Emilia Centres are designed and arranged to provide beautiful, inspiring, provoking resources in an environment that is rich and stimulating.

Many settings choose to implement a small number of elements of philosophies of the Reggio Emilia approach. At Shrewsbury Prepatoria we aim to implement the approach as fully as possible across all age ranges.
