In 1978 I started up Jetstar Travel in Ewell Village where I worked as manager until 1981 when I became a part owner and Managing Director for the first time and opened up Travel World as a new Company with two sleeping partners.
I left Virgin in 2004 and went to work for Travelworld as a business travel consultant. It was a local agency and a lot easier for me as I had 2 young children. I loved my job and learnt so much during this time. Travelworld was taken over in 2010 and I continued to work there doing both business and retail bookings.
We were shocked to come into work in January 2013 to be told that Ambassador travel was being put into liquidation.. After a day of not quite knowing what to do, the 4 of us (Dave, Jennie, Tara and myself) put our heads together and decided that the shop had to carry on.. we are in a great location and have great clients, none of us could walk away from it. So on the 1st February we opened our doors as Village Travel. It is the best thing we could of done and we are all extremely proud of the fact that the agency is now our own !
I got a call from Clare when a position became available at Travel World in 2004. I loved Travel World from the moment I started as it was a much busier shop and I learnt so much more about both retail and business travel. I was offered more educational's and visited Kenya, Seychelles, Morocco and Mexico.
When Ambassador was put into liquidation we were all completely shocked, the shop was always busy and remained so...it was the best decision we all made together to take over the shop and become co-owners. I am immensely proud that the shop is our own and that we are doing so well. Village Travel is a great shop, in a brilliant location with wonderful clients and of course fabulous co-directors!! I've already been on another educational too, this time to Cyprus!!
