We begin the ZB session with a discussion of the current state of your health and life, and how I can help and support you. You will first sit, as I focus on your back and shoulders, and then I will ask you to lie on your back, fully clothed, on the treatment couch. I will assess your body for tension, particularly tension held in the bones and joints. Using gentle finger pressure and stretches, at a level that feels purposeful and focused (neither “too much” nor “too little”), my work will invite a welcome release of tension, which generally feels pleasurable and deeply relaxing. Each session is unique and typically lasts 20–40 minutes depending on your specific needs. After your session, you will have a few moments to rest, and then I will ask you to stand up and walk around to integrate the work and help you return to full alertness after being deeply relaxed.
If you are new to Zero Balancing, I recommend that you book 3 sessions over a period of 3–8 weeks. Having regular sessions within this sort of time frame helps to allow newly experienced inner ease and structural flexibility to settle firmly in your body. After that, you may choose to enjoy Zero Balancing as a supportive part of your life, having a regular session every 4–5 weeks to maintain your sense of wellbeing, or perhaps have an occasional ZB session to “top up” as needed, particularly during challenging times.
“It was fantastic to do a course in such an atmosphere of safety and non-judgment. The material we learnt was presented in a great way for learning and gaining personal confidence. Rosanna, you presented things and addressed needs I didn’t know I had – like giving the course structure so that we knew when we were in the middle, or nearing the end – making ‘re-entry’ into normal life much easier.”
She became interested in complementary medicine in the mid-1980s, when she sought help for crippling migraines brought on by bereavement. Acupuncture brought about such a dramatic improvement in her health, emotionally as well as physically, that she resigned from her job as a Press Officer for an arts organisation in London and began her initial acupuncture training at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Leamington Spa, going on to complete an Advanced Licenciate in Acupuncture in 1994. Since then she has received further qualifications from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading.
of help and support for people with all sorts of symptoms and conditions.
. Your physical, emotional and mental states are seen as equally important and interlinked. Acupuncturists are trained to use subtle diagnostic techniques that have been developed and refined for centuries. The focus is on you as a unique individual rather than on your illness, and all your symptoms are seen in relation to each other. Because two people with the same western diagnosis may well receive different acupuncture treatments, rather than ask “Is acupuncture good for my symptoms?” it is more realistic to ask “Might acupuncture help me (with my symptoms)?”
Can acupuncture help you?
When booking a patient in for an appointment on 15 January 2018, she looked up from her diary and said “Oh, that’s Blue Monday”. I looked blank, so she said something about that being, officially, the day on which we are most miserable … and then the conversation moved on to something a little more cheery.
Well, let’s take a look at that. Firstly, I’m always wary of any grand statements about everyone feeling something because we are individuals, not clones. For every person who despairs about the cold and dark, there is another one who loves wearing lots of layers and snuggling up in front of a fire. Really, there are people like that. Everywhere. I’m one of them. You won’t find me flying off to catch some winter sun. I’m off to Norway soon. Even less light there, and definitely less heat.
Whatever your reason for seeking help – be it looking for relief from back pain, headaches, nausea or other physical complaints; wanting to feel more relaxed and in control; preferring to avoid prescription drugs; or simply knowing your energy levels and your zest for life could be much better – you have your own story. “When events in my life presented me with an opportunity to start over, I was bewildered, disillusioned and fearful. Rosanna listened to my story with such kindness and caring that I immediately felt safe and secure. A true professional, Rosanna guided our conversations to obtain the information she needed to provide the most effective acupuncture treatment. This, combined with her wisdom and guidance, has helped my stress and fear subside and enabled a more positive outlook to return.”
