Money Matters was founded in 1973 by Mike Chapman, who has forty years’ experience in financial services. Mike was joined by his daughter, Kerri Chapman, in 2004 and together they have continued to grow the business and look after the needs of their clients. We have traded continuously from the same premises since 1985, giving you the confidence of dealing with a firm that has been in the same place for nearly three decades. In 2013, we agreed to join forces with Sovereign Wealth to become Sovereign Money Matters Ltd. We aim to foster long-term relationships with our clients, and our success is based on this approach. We are not driven by sales but instead focus on client service and the integrity and quality of our advice. This is reflected in our clients – we have provided advice to many individuals for several decades, and now look after the financial affairs of three and four generations of the same families.
We want you to enjoy the experience of being a client. We won’t try to baffle you with jargon and technical terms, we will talk to you in clear, easy to follow language and set out our plans in easy to read and understand documentation, explained clearly and patiently, taking into account your own individual experience and knowledge. If you want a summary in layman’s terms we can provide it; if you want detailed and technical analysis equally we can provide that too. Talk to us in your preferred language and we’ll talk back in the same tone.
We are highly skilled, educated and very approachable. Bring all of your financial worries, concerns, hopes and beliefs to us and we will deliver a trusted plan with attention to detail and the personal touch.
Mike has recently stopped giving financial advice but still maintains an involvement in the company. Mike trained as an engineer, working for British Ropes and Rolls Royce before leaving to work in financial services. Whilst the two industries are very different, the experience of engineering – essentially, problem solving and finding new and innovative solutions to specific problems – has been invaluable and is very applicable to his role as a financial adviser. Mike very much enjoys using these skills in “financial engineering”. After working for a major national insurance and investment provider, he left to set up on his own and now has four decades’ experience in this industry. He holds numerous professional qualifications including advanced ones such as G60, G10 and G30. As well as having many years experience in advising individuals, Mike has extensive experience in corporate advice.
Kerri read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oriel College, Oxford before working at Aon (a major international consultancy) and KPMG as a pension consultant in the executive benefits team. From there she came to Money Matters to continue her career as an independent financial adviser. Kerri has extensive professional qualifications and is a Chartered Financial Planner. She holds numerous advanced qualifications including G10 (Tax & Trusts) and G60 and AF3 (Pensions Specialist) .
Mark has always worked in Finance. His career started as an Investment Analyst for a London stockbroker and then as the Corporate Planner for a major PLC. Mark became the youngest ever CEO of a public company and after selling his interests he worked as a consultant for a number of companies in the Financial Services industry.
We have a very strong administrative team to help our advisers to manage all of our clients affairs and keep everything running smoothly. Between them they have over 40 years experience in financial services and are a tremendous asset to our business. They are fully trained and are well aware of the need for strict confidentiality with any dealings they may have with you. They are available during office hours to answer any routine queries you may have. They can also obtain updated valuations and let you know how any applications you have made are progressing. Whilst our advisers are always pleased to hear from our clients, they are often involved in long meetings and may have to call you back later that day. However, a member of the administrative team is almost always available and in many cases they will be able to answer your question immediately! Many of our clients have developed close relationships with our administrators as well as with our advisers and this is actively encouraged by our team approach.
Angie heads up our administration team and is always on hand to provide our clients with updated valuations of their plans and answer any questions about how things are progressing. Angie has a wealth of experience in this area and we are very proud to be celebrating Angie’s 25th year with Sovereign Money Matters this year. Angie is very involved with her grandchildren who attend the local school and during lunch breaks, we always give them a wave from her window which overlooks the school playground!
Julie provides administrative support to our advisers and is also available to obtain updated valuations and provide our clients with updates on the progress of their cases. Julie has considerable experience in this area and has now been working at Sovereign Money Matters for over 8 years. We are now counting down the days until Julie’s big day, when she plans to marry Scott and live happily ever after.
Linzi provides administrative support to our advisers and is also available to obtain updated valuations and provide our clients with updates on the progress of their cases. Linzi has considerable experience in this area and has now been working at Sovereign Money Matters for over 8 years. When Linzi is not working or caring for her beautiful little boy, she finds time to do voluntary work as a counsellor in Doncaster.
