The Company
Leamside Equestrian Limited is a private limited company aiming to create the North East’s premium location and centre of excellence for all aspects of equestrian need and to support equine sports in the UK holistically from entry level to Olympic candidates. It is operated at Whitehouse Farm, Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear. We offer a wide range of equine services including competitions, arena hire, coaching, livery and therapy.
Leamside Equestrian was initially established as a family-owned business by Beverley Brown and her husband Philip Brown back in 2005. Since then the Browns have worked hard to restore the farm buildings and replace the old with new, including restoration of the farmhouse, building a substantial livery and therapy facility which attract international riders and their horses for training, therapy, livery and clinics. An international sized outdoor riding arena was also built to be hired for show jumping, dressage, to school young horses and for competitions. The business gradually established itself as a high-quality stud centre where it bred, trained and competed its own horses to FEI international level. LE Chiffre their homebred ELITE pony stallion represented Great Britain in 2016 and was this highest placed British combination with his then rider Lara Kuropatwa.
To strengthen its financial positions and expand the business, Leamside Equestrian was incorporated as a new limited company in December 2012. Since then the company has worked with East Durham Leader on the project Centre of Excellence and invested a substantial amount to further enhance its existing facilities to meet a wide range of equine needs. Up-to-date it has seen the building of an all-weather indoor competition arena, a therapy centre, a new horse walker, a state-of-art horse riding simulator, new stable blocks and the renovations of the existing admin building, outdoor arena, and stables.
Leamside Equestrian welcomes riders from all disciplines and levels to make use of our facilities and improve their skills.
In 2005, Mrs Brown and her husband established the family-owned business – Leamside Equestrian, with the ambition to one day develop it into a world-class equestrian centre, which is not only capable of breeding and producing top quality sports horses, but also providing first-class facilities and services for competitions and equine-related events at all levels. Despite a major disruption to the business in 2008 caused by the water board operating machinery on site as part of the flood alleviation programme, Beverley continued to work hard and managed to keep the business on track.
